Set RichTextBox tab stops in C#

After you insert a rich text box on a form template, you can customize it by changing its properties and settings in the Rich Text Box Properties dialog box. To open this dialog box, on the form template, double-click the rich text box whose properties you want to change. The following table describes some of the ways in which you can customize a rich text box and offers reasons why you might do so. Although the table isn't intended to provide detailed procedural information about the options in the Rich Text Box Properties dialog box, it does give you an idea of the range of options that are available.

If you are designing a browser-compatible form template, certain features in the Rich Text Box Properties dialog box are not available. For example, you cannot selectively specify rich-text formatting options, such as character formatting or paragraph breaks. If your form template is based on a database, schema, or other existing data source, you may not be able to customize all aspects of a control. For example, you may be able to change the size of the control but not its field or group name, which are derived from the existing data source.

When you design a new, blank form template, you can change the default field or group name for a control to something that is easier to identify when you work with the data source. For example, a field named "MeetingNotes" is easier to understand than a field named "field1. If you need to bind a rich text box to a different field, right-click the rich text box, and then click Change Binding on the shortcut menu.

If you want default text to appear inside a control when a user first opens the form, you can type that text in the Value box.

You can also use the value of another field in the data source as the default value for a control. Default values are different from placeholder text which is described later in this article in that they are always saved as data in the form. Click Data Validation to specify data validation rules for the control.

By default, paragraph breaks are enabled for rich text boxes so that users can type paragraphs of information into the rich text box. If you want to prevent users from doing this, clear the Paragraph breaks check box.

Enabling paragraph breaks in rich text boxes is not supported in browser-compatible form templates.

By default, character formatting is enabled for rich text boxes so that users can format the text that they type into the rich text box. If you want to prevent users from doing this, clear the Character formatting check box. I was responding to your question "Btw, what would be the best way of checking if a textbox contentcontrol is selected? And then, following that, to the question in your second post on that day, "Is it possible to update this macro code so that the placeholders doesn't HAVE to be inside a table?

I believe that the method in my first post to this thread gave you a method of doing that. I am not sure however about assigning that macro to a Tab key, but no matter to what you assign it, you will probably want to use some of the later code that I provided to determine if the selection is in a content control when the macro is invoked. Basic text is not greyed out on this occasion but if you look at Snip 3where I did exactly the same thing pressed reply to it is greyed out — it seems to be inconsistent and snip three happens if they sent their email in basic text but I am guessing.

When it is not greyed out and you click on basic text — which used to give you the option of rich text or HTML you now get what appears on snip 2. The consequence is that it is now no longer possible to cut and paste anything formatted into your email.

How the message appears to the person receiving it depends on their email program. If the recipient's email program is set to convert messages, for example, then a message you send formatted as HTML could be converted to plain text. Outlook gives you three message format choices. Each message format has different benefits. This is the default message format in Outlook. HTML is also the best format to use when you want to create messages that look like traditional documents, with various fonts, colors, and bulleted and numbered lists, and when you want to show pictures inside your message.

The plain text format also doesn't support showing pictures inside the message, although you can include pictures as attachments. In fact, when you send an RTF message to someone outside your organization, Outlook automatically converts it to HTML, so the message keeps its formatting and its attachments.

Outlook also automatically formats messages that contain voting buttons, and converts tasks and meeting requests to iCalendar format. With RTF, you can format text with bullets, can align text, and can use other options, including adding linked objects. Attachments in an RTF message appear as icons within the message body. In HTML messages, however, attachments appear underneath the subject header of a message. In the message, click ReplyReply Allor Forward. The message format for an Internet email address contact can be specified.

For example, if you want all messages that are sent to melissa contoso. You can identify an SMTP email address as those that contain the symbol—for example, melissa contoso. If you are using an Exchange Server account and sending to another person in your organization who is also using an Exchange Server account, this feature is not available. When you reply to a message, Outlook preserves the format of the original message. If you select the Read all standard mail in plain text option, however, Outlook formats your reply in plain text.

If you change the format of the message, the reply is formatted with the new display format. On the Tools menu, click Optionsand then click the Mail Format tab. In the Compose in this message format list, click the format that you want. In the E-mail box, double-click the recipient's e-mail address. In the Internet Format list, select the format that you want to use for messages to this recipient. An SMTP e-mail address contains the symbol—for example, barbara contoso.

If you are using an Exchange account and sending to another person in your organization who is also using an Exchange account, this feature is not available. Rarely, a recipient may notify you that the email message you sent appears to them as a message with an attachment called winmail. This issue is caused if you use the Rich Text message format, which the recipient's email program can't interpret correctly.

Send your message again, using either HTML or plain text format. Learn more.
